Love At First Glance
A Love Poem
I got out of my car
And when I turned around
There you stood looking
From afar on dusty ground
I noticed your curly brown hair
You didn’t make a sound
Your eyes followed me intently
As I walked around to the trunk
You seemed very curious
As I closed it with a thunk
You started to cross the road
But you were unsure of me
I wanted to see you up close
But you were nervous as could be
As I delivered the package
To the recipient inside
You mustered up the nerve
To move with a fast stride
When I walked out of the door
And saw you only steps away
My heart missed a beat
My balance began to sway
I asked you to come closer
But you walked in a wide arc
Putting a safe distance between us
You let out a small bark
I thought you’d run away
And that my heart would break
I squatted down
And shrunk to your size
You ran and greeted me
With love in your eyes
I could believe a baby so small
Could be so brave, big, and tall
“Who abandoned you?”
I asked with tears in my check
You’re such a beautiful lady
A human could ever know
You gave me a single kiss
And my face began to glow
Oh you were dirty
From being thrown away
But I knew there was something
Special about you right away
I gently placed you into my car
You laid down without a sound
You knew your human you had found
When I got you home
You let me give you a bath
Then the way you ran around
Like a muppet on crack
Had me giggling so hard
I nearly broke my neck
I gave you some cat food
It was all I had at the time
You gobbled it down hungrily
Finished with a big sigh
You gave me a puppy burp
Almost like a high five
My hubby wasn’t shocked
When I called him at work
I asked him to please stop
And pick up proper food
He knew I loved animals
And that will never change
I can’t help but to rescue them
And give them a second chance
We decided to name you
Frankie LuAnne DuBois
Because you are so smart and sassy
A French girl who says “Moi?”
You’ll never know how much
I needed you in my life
You ended up rescuing me
From a deep depression and strife
Gave me a reason to smile again
My heart skipped a beat!
Thank you so much
For taking a chance with me
I will love you forever
A proud fur parent to be
I knew I’d always care for you
After that first glance
